Synopsis

Co-designing a Centre of Excellence in STEM: Professor Judy Robertson, University of Edinburgh Moray House School of Education & Tommy Lawson, Midlothian Council

Midlothian Council and the University of Edinburgh are co-designing a new school, located in the shadow of the world-famous Easter Bush Campus. The Campus hosts the new national supercomputer, bioscience centre and the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital. Drawing on the expertise across both organisations and working with Midlothian’s learners, the Centre will look to incorporate the latest inspiring learning space design with innovative curriculum design. Working with Moray House School of Education, we will also look to develop pedagogies around new learning spaces and STEM. The presentation will also draw on the experience of partnership working from the Newbattle Centre of Excellence in Digital and the Data Education in Schools programme, sponsored by the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal.

Digital Learning in the classroom and beyond: Barry McDonald, Community & Programme Manager, CodeBase Stirling

How do we support, encourage and inspire digital learning? How do we futureproof young people against a rapidly changing world of work? With an estimated 65% of young people starting school expected to follow careers that don’t yet exist, are we doing enough to prepare them for the future? And is the traditional classroom up for the task?
