Biography

Lene is an education entrepreneur, learning space design expert, school design facilitator and founder of Autens – a leading Danish consultancy dedicated to re-imagining education and creating schools of the future. Incorporating student voice, creativity, innovation, co-creation, playfulness and a passionate dedication to people, Autens works with their clients to evolve 21st-century learning practices, vision-driven school development, and a new generation of inspiring learning spaces and school facilities. Lene has been involved in rebuilding or building new schools and educational institutions for close to £600 million. Although based in Denmark, she regularly speaks at international education conferences and connects educators and schools across the globe in joint efforts to take education forward. In addition to her work with Autens, Lene leads The Global Schools Alliance, a worldwide family of cutting-edge, innovative schools. She also serves as an academy member for the Finnish not-for-profit HundrED, an organization dedicated to discovering and sharing impactful and scalable K12 innovations across the world. She recently contributed to the book Planning Learning Spaces which was launched this autumn where international experts have come together to share their most valuable insights.

Autens’ original workshop, Learning Space Design Lab (c) has twice been awarded among the 100 most inspiring innovations in education by Finnish HundrED, a powerful method to engage users in shaping schools of the future. Learning Space Design Lab combines neuroscience, learning research and organizational transformation theories into a playful journey bringing large groups of teachers (and students) together in designing their future schools while taking a collective leap of faith into new powerful visions for teaching and learning.
