Creative Director & Founder
In 2004 Lucy co-founded StudioLR – a design company ambitious to tackle society’s big challenges, and to make everyday experiences better for people from all walks of life.
A thought leader on inclusive design, Lucy has developed a depth of learning around visual and verbal communications for particular groups of vulnerable people, namely: older people and people living with dementia, care experience children, and young people with additional support needs. With accessibility at the heart of the work, this includes the way we communicate to reach these groups of people, not just visually but also understanding that cognitive functions work differently.
Lucy has been a finalist in The Scottish Designer of the Year on three occasions and with her team has won over 60 national and international design awards including two D&AD design awards – recognised globally as the ultimate creative accolade.
Earlier this year Lucy Richards was appointed by SBID (The Society of British and International Design) to the Education Design Council expert panel. The Education Design Council seeks to put effective design at the core of the learning process and show how evidence-based design decisions can transform the learning experience for everyone.
She is Scottish Chapter Chair for the Society for Environmental Graphic Design – a global multi-disciplinary community of professionals who create visual communications in the built environment – and she is a member of the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Dementia.
